Lajit Heirloom Cacao Nibs are an Ecuadorian raw chocolate delight. Always Organic & Fair Trade. These nibs come from heirloom cacao trees that grow under a natural rainforest canopy. Hand harvested by locals who have been stewards of this sacred strain of cacao for generations. Aside from the many health benefits of cacao, you’ll notice a superior flavor profile with a floral aroma and a nutty taste that makes a smooth, delicious chocolate. Nibs are simply cacao beans that are crushed after the outer skin is removed.
Lajit Heirloom Cacao Powder is made from the same beans as our nibs. Cacao powder is simply cacao beans that are crushed and slowly stone ground after the outer skin is removed. There is no need for heat during this process so you get a truly raw fully activated, vegan treat!Â
What is Cacao?
Cacao is chocolate in it’s purest form before it is sweetened. The cacao bean is found inside the fruit of the cacao tree. The skin is removed and the beans are then used to make nibs, butter, powder and paste. Cacao has a long and rich history, especially in the Amazon rainforest where we source all of our cacao products. The Aztecs even used cacao as a currency because it is so valuable and deemed a food of the God’s.
3 grams (about a 3/4 tsp) is a good serving of cacao. Cacao is a mild stimulant so we recommend taking it earlier in the day to not disrupt your sleep cycle.Â
